May 04 Crown Castle Pittsburgh-Area Employees Partner to Improve South Park
County Executive Rich Fitzgerald kicked off the volunteer event to plant over 180 trees
Pittsburgh, PA, May 4, 2023 – As part of its Connected by Good partnership with the Allegheny County Parks Foundation, Crown Castle Inc. (NYSE: CCI), the nation’s leading provider of shared communications infrastructure, volunteered to plant 185 restoration trees and shrubs today. Approximately 25 Crown Castle employee volunteers worked alongside the county’s park rangers to plant the trees. Twenty bare root landscape trees had already been planted in advance to kick off the effort.
County Executive Rich Fitzgerald was on hand to welcome the volunteers and kick off the event with a brief ceremony. He was joined by Joey-Linn Ulrich, Executive Director of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation, and Renee Morales, External Affairs Manager for Crown Castle, for remarks, before the trio and Allegheny County Representative Tom Duerr planted a tree.
“Allegheny County’s parks are one of the reasons southwestern Pennsylvania is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the country. Our quality of life is next to none,” said County Executive Fitzgerald. “Our continued investments in the parks take public-private partnerships like the one between the Allegheny County Parks Foundation and Crown Castle to make projects like this planting happen.”
Allegheny County has one of the largest, most established park systems in the country. With over 12,000 acres spread across nine regional parks, the county’s parks include beautifully landscaped fields, natural forests, rugged hiking trails and abundant recreational facilities.
“The nine Allegheny County parks receive over 23 million visits each year,” commented Joey-Linn Ulrich. “We are thrilled to include Crown Castle as one of our outstanding partners who helps us improve our parks for all visitors to enjoy. This partnership is just one of the ways we connect community partners and funders to tackle the projects that leave a lasting mark.”
Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Parks Foundation work with partners, like Crown Castle, to provide critical funding to take on park projects that make an impact. Using the Allegheny County Parks Comprehensive Master Plan and other assessments as guides, the Parks Foundation raises public and private funds from foundations, corporations, state and federal grant programs and individuals to improve the park system in collaboration with the county.
“Access to open spaces can make an enormous impact on our quality of life, economic development, and mental well-being,” said Renee Morales, External Affairs Manager for Crown Castle. “Through our Connected by Good program we work with community organizations to improve spaces where people connect, promote public safety, and advance access to education and technology. We are thrilled to partner with the Allegheny County Parks Foundation to support the great work they do on projects that improve public spaces in county parks.”
