North Park Observation Tower Restoration Update |
Thanks to your incredible generosity, we’ve surpassed our original $20,000 goal for the North Park Observation Tower Restoration!
Every dollar raised beyond our initial target will strengthen our contingency fund and help ensure the successful completion of this historic project, bringing us one step closer to reopening this beloved landmark to the community.
There are many ways to be part of this exciting restoration effort. In our May blog post, you can learn more about the Tower’s history, explore the restoration plans and even submit your own photos and memories to be part of the story! |

This is the last month we will be using Constant Contact to deliver your monthly newsletter. Beginning in July, we will transition to Bloomerang Communications as part of our ongoing database transition. As we shared earlier this year, we recently moved to a new database to better serve our supporters. Shifting our email platform is one of the final steps in that process. When you see an email from Bloomerang Communications on July 1, please add it to your contacts or mark it as a trusted sender to ensure our messages continue to reach your inbox.
We look forward to continuing to serve you and share the impact you make possible! Please email Jaime if you have feedback on our e-newsletters. |

Settlers Cabin Park Tree Planting |
On May 27, we teamed up with 6 FedEx volunteers to plant 25 native redbud trees at Settlers Cabin Park as part of our Park Entrance Enhancements Project. This small but mighty crew made the east entrance to the park more welcoming, sustainable and better equipped to manage stormwater runoff. Earlier this spring, professional landscapers also planted 13 native conifers as a part of this project. Together, this diverse mix of trees will create new habitat for the animals and insects that call Settlers Cabin Park home. We extend a huge thank you to the hard-working volunteers, to FedEx for funding for this project, which was a recommendation in the Ecological Assessment and Action Plan for Settlers Cabin Park and to the Allegheny County Parks Department for their partnership on this planting.

Streams Assessment Update
We are excited to share that the Penn State Master Watershed Stewards are continuing to monitor streams across all nine parks following the completion of our three-year assessment project. Since the initial study concluded, the Stewards have carried on with quarterly chemical sampling and annual macroinvertebrate surveys in the previously studied streams.
This ongoing work allows for long-term tracking of water quality and aquatic life, offering valuable insight into how stream health is changing over time. By continuing this monitoring, we can better understand trends, identify emerging concerns, and support informed stewardship of our park waterways. |

Park 'til Dark Tree Planting |
On May 16 at Park ’til Dark, 17 dedicated volunteers spent their afternoon making a lasting impact in South Park. Together, we planted 100 trees to help repair a canopy gap in the woods above the Cottage. These plantings will restore forest health, increase native tree diversity and support a more resilient park ecosystem for generations to come.
We are deeply grateful to our volunteers for their hard work, to the Allegheny County Park Rangers for leading the event, to the Garden Club of Allegheny County for providing the trees and to Peoples Natural Gas for sponsoring this important effort. If you missed this opportunity, join us for the next Park ’til Dark Tree Planting in North Park on September 26. |

| June Allegheny County Featured Event |
Allegheny County is launching the final phase of public engagement for its first-ever Climate Action Plan. The Department of Sustainability is hosting a free, family-friendly community open house on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Department of Human Services Building in Downtown Pittsburgh. Remarks will begin at 6:00 pm and a light dinner will be provided. |
Each year, the Allegheny County Parks Foundation plants trees across the county parks in partnership with Allegheny County.
In addition to their natural beauty, trees play a vital role in strengthening park ecosystems. They help increase our region’s declining tree canopy, stabilize streambanks to filter and clean rainwater before it reaches our streams, support stormwater management by absorbing runoff and provide essential habitat and food for birds and other wildlife.
Your donation can also serve as a meaningful way to honor a loved one, celebrate a special memory, or memorialize someone important in your life. Donations of $50 or more to the Tree Program will be recognized with a commemorative certificate. |
