Boyce Park meadow

The Allegheny County Parks Foundation, in partnership with Allegheny County, has created meadows featuring a diverse mix of native grasses and wildflowers, replacing mowed areas. In several county parks, spacious walking paths allow visitors to enjoy these areas all year long. Meadows provide a critical – and increasingly rare – high quality habitat for pollinators like bees and butterflies, allow rainfall to infiltrate deep into the soil instead of creating runoff complications and significantly decrease the amount of fuel and greenhouse gas emissions that are required to maintain lawns.
