OVERVIEW
The Allegheny County Parks Foundation worked in partnership with Allegheny County to develop the plan and solicit funds in support of a new meadow in Deer Lakes Park. The Deer Lakes Park Barn Solar Meadow project will install a 3.5-acre wildflower meadow next to the recently installed solar array. The solar array will provide all the electricity needed to achieve Allegheny County’s net zero energy goals in the park. The new meadow will reduce stormwater runoff flows, provide critical pollinator habitat, and reduce the need to mow while enhancing the park’s beauty. The meadow planting will be located near the park office barn, which is accessed from Baileys Run Road. The project is scheduled to begin in fall of 2023.
