South Park Cascades Restoration

The Cascades at the Stone Manse in South Park hold fond memories for generations of visitors who recall spending hot summer days bathing in the cooling spring waters. This iconic feature, designed by renowned landscape architect Paul Riis when the Allegheny County Parks were founded in 1927, is being restored through the joint partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, Allegheny County Parks Foundation, Allegheny County Parks and the Pennsylvania State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Bench Endowment Program

Celebrate Life's Events with our Bench Endowment Program

The Bench Endowment Program began in 2012 and has provided over ten benches to the county parks system through the generosity of donors.

Many people inquire about a meaningful way to improve the parks with a gift that will be of lasting benefit and this program provides an opportunity to making a gift of lasting value to the parks in honor of a loved one, in memory of a special friend, or in expression of thanks.

The benches are comfortable, well-made, and designed to last.  Three models are currently available, two Classic Style Benches perfect for enjoying a lakeside sunset or woodland view, and the Indiana Limestone Bench that gives a place for people to rest in the formal areas of our parks.

The Classic Style Bench is cast iron with either steel slats or recycled plastic slats and has a bronze plaque attached on the back rest.  The classic bench is typically located near park facilities, playgrounds, along trails, or park gathering places.

The Indiana Limestone Bench is very sustainable and has a bronze plaque attached on the front face of the bench seat. The limestone bench is typically located adjacent to historic park features.

Please contact us if you would like to contribute to the Bench Endowment Program. Thank you.

Preserve Our Parks

If you believe that great parks make great communities, we ask for your support to enhance our regional treasures, the Allegheny County Parks. The nine County Parks totaling over 12,000 acres include North Park, South Park, Settler’s Cabin Park, Boyce Park, Hartwood Acres Park, Harrison Hills Park, Deer Lakes Park, Round Hill Park, and White Oak Park.

Established in the late 1920’s, the County Parks are a magnificent resource, important to both the quality of life and economic prosperity of the County, but they require attention. Facing the increasing needs of active citizens looking for opportunities to enhance healthy lifestyle choices, we need your help to improve the parks and preserve the legacy of excellence.

The Allegheny County Parks Comprehensive Master Plan estimates the total cost of capital improvements to be $80 million to address preservation of existing assets and development of new facilities in the nine County Parks.

We need your support. With your donation, we can deliver projects and programs to enhance our parks, making them even better for generations to come.
