The Marshall Island Beautification Improvement Project is located adjacent to Pearce Mill Road, just south of the North Park Ice Rink. Landscape enhancements at Marshall Island will include removing invasive species and diseased trees both on the island and on Pearce Mill Road’s shoreline to help open views and eliminate hazards; removing a retaining wall, and removing soil which has been mounded on the central lawn area to create a gentler slope for passive recreation such as picnicking, as originally intended by Paul Riis. The design will also include a variety of new shade trees, understory plantings and low-growing native shoreline species to stabilize the water edge and maintain the lake view.
