Informative, uniform signage in these three parks accomplish several things. In Round Hill Park, they enhance the visitors’ experience by describing A Day on the Farm and provide historical context for what they will see at Round Hill. The signs installed in North and South Parks detail the founding of the Allegheny County Parks system. They describe how the visionary Allegheny County Commissioner E.V. Babcock recognized the need to preserve rural lands for recreation and protect them from the city’s inevitable expansion. He oversaw the county’s purchase of about 4,000 acres in 1927 that would become North and South Parks.
