FAQ: Park ’til Dark

Sunrise Yoga

About: Start your day with South Hills Power Yoga for a one hour yoga session, ending with a ten minute meditation. This will be the perfect way to jumpstart your active day in the park!

Time: 7:30 – 8:30AM

Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate

Place: Park at the bottom lot at the South Park Museum Building and meet us on the Fairgrounds Oval (shine) or inside the Museum Building (rain).

Bring: Please bring a yoga mat or towel, water, and weather appropriate clothing. If outside, the grass may be dewy.

 

Walk & Learn for Older Adults

About: Join Venture Outdoors Again as their certified physical therapist guides registrants on a walk to learn about the importance of exercise and how to safely enjoy movement outdoors.

Time: 9:30 – 10:30AM

Difficulty: Activity specialized for older adults

Place: Participants can meet at the Maple Springs Gazebo and park at the parking lot off of Maple Springs Dr.

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate clothes and closed toed shoes. 

 

Trail Run with South Park Trail Runners

About: Join the South Park Trail Runners for a 3 mile run on the South Park trails. This relaxed trail run will explore the cascades, vale of cashmere and more.

Time: 9:30 – 10:30AM

Difficulty: Intermediate

Place: Participants can meet and park at the Lower Cascades Parking Lot

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate attire for running.

 

Leisure Walk with BOLD

About: Join the Western PA Blind Outdoor Leisure Development as the Allegheny County Park Rangers guide us through a one mile hike with interpretive stops along the way discussing the flora and fauna found in the Allegheny County Parks.

Time: 10:30AM – 12:00PM 

Difficulty: This activity is geared to the blind and visually impaired, but all are welcome.

Place: Participants can park and meet at the South Park Ice Rink parking lot. The Farmers’ Market will be set up on the left side of the parking lot, but there will be plenty of parking in the lot area closest to the ice rink. 

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate attire.

 

Bankshot Basketball, Bocce Ball and Bagels

About: Drop-in anytime during 10am-12pm at the newly installed Bankshot Basketball Court to play adaptive basketball and bocce ball while enjoying bagels with the Western PA Special Olympics. Stop by for friendly interactions and free giveaways.

Time: 10:00AM – 12:00PM

Difficulty: Participants of all ages, sizes and abilities are welcome!

Place: Activities will be held on Tennis Court Road, parking is offered at the North Park Boathouse parking lot.

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate clothes that are comfortable for activities.

 

Mushroom Exploration

About: Look for and learn about the varieties of mushrooms found in the park with the Western PA Mushroom Club. Join us for this unique opportunity.

Time: 12:00 – 2:00PM

Place: Participants will meet at the Airplane Model Field and will wander the nearby trails, parking is provided at the location.

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate attire. 

 

Farmers’ Market

About: Join the Parks Foundation anytime from 12:00-4:00pm as we host our very own farmers’ market. Hear from organizations doing work in your community, listen to live music, enjoy food, visit your favorite Bethel Park Farmers’ Market vendors, and more!

Time: 12:00 – 4:00PM

Place: VIP Parking Lot between the South Park Ice Rink and Flora Park Garden Center off of Corrigan Rd.

 

Dek Hockey Clinic

About: Join Allegheny County for a Dek Hockey Clinic from 1-2pm. Equipment and a lesson on the basics will be provided to kids ages 4-12.

Time: 1:00 – 2:00PM

Difficulty: Beginner lesson for kids ages 4-12

Place: Parking and activity are both at the South Park Dek Hockey Rink. Please note this is not the Ice Rink.

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate clothes and athletic shoes. All equipment will be provided.

 

Forest Bathing Walk

About: Join Dr. Doug and the Women’s Adventure Club of Western PA for forest bathing and experience nature’s power to sooth, refresh and open your heart. This will be a slow, leisurely walk. Athletic ability is not required. We will focus on our sensory connection with the more-than-human world, but naturalist knowledge is not necessary for this experience. The walk will last two hours and be no more than a half-mile in length. Tea service will conclude the walk.

Time: 3:00 – 5:00PM – Please arrive at least 10 minutes early

Place: Participants can park and meet at The Cascades.

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate clothes and shoes.

 

Garden Tour at the South Park Theatre

About: Stop by the South Park Theatre and take a tour of the Penn State Extension Garden. Specialists will be on site to answer any questions and share more about the spring growth!

Time: 3:00 – 5:00PM

Place: Parking and activity held at the South Park Theatre.

 

Pour at the Park hosted by the Allegheny County Parks Foundation

About: The day will be capped with Pour at the Park, our annual fundraiser where you can try tastings from local breweries and food vendors while listening to live music! Tickets can be purchased at pouratthepark.com and benefit your county parks.

Time: 5:30 – 8:30PM

Place: Event at the South Park Museum Building, parking at the Green Parking Lot on the corner of Brownsville Rd. and Corrigan Dr.
