Sunrise Yoga with South Hills Power Yoga

About: Join us for a one-hour, beginner friendly yoga session with South Hills Power Yoga!

Time: 7:30 – 8:30am

Difficulty: Beginner

Where: South Park Fairgrounds Oval. Guests may park at the Museum Building.

Equipment: Please bring water, a towel or mat and appropriate clothing. Grass maybe wet from dew.

 

Tai Chi with Tai Chi for Health Pittsburgh

About: Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese wellness practice focused on preventing illness and injury by enhancing your natural flow of movement and healing. It is rooted in the Daoist philosophy of aligning with the patterns and rhythms of nature. Through motion and stillness you will explore your relationship with yourself and your environment. Mindful use of breath, grounding, and gentle, fluid movement will guide you toward wholeness and serenity. Feel the support of the earth below and the open sky above to replenish your energy, find balance, serenity and joy.

Classes are taught standing with some seating provided.

Time: 9:00 – 10:00am

Difficulty: Beginner, ADA Accessible

Where: South Park Fairgrounds Oval. Guests may park at the Museum Building.

Equipment: No equipment is needed. Wear comfortable everyday clothes and flat, flexible shoes attached at the heel.

 

Tree Planting supported by Allegheny County Park Rangers

About: Join us for a volunteer tree planting with the Allegheny County Park Rangers from 9am-12pm. The Pittsburgh Area Geocaching Association will be volunteering with us and offering an introduction to Geocaching, with an opportunity to participate in finding a cache.

Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Difficulty: Intermediate, moderate physical exercise

Where: Park and meet at the Children’s Playground Parking Lot on the corner of Corrigan Dr and Brownsville Rd. There will be a quarter mile walk to the planting location at the top of the hill.

Bring: Please bring water and wear weather appropriate clothes and closed toed shoes. 

 

Mountain Bike Clinic with Venture Outdoors

About: Are you curious about exploring mountain biking for the first time or seeking to boost your confidence on a mountain bike as a beginner? Join Venture Outdoors for a welcoming and supportive experience. First, we’ll begin by assessing bike fit and discussing the ABC Bike Safety Check. Then we’ll practice basic bike handling skills like shifting, braking, and turning in a grassy field. If time allows, we will go for a brief group ride at a relaxed pace and practice on some trail features. Bikes and helmets will be provided and require riders who are under 6ft tall. Must be 18+.

Time: Session 1 – 10:00 – 11:00am; Session 2 – 11:15am – 12:15pm

Difficulty: Beginner

Where: Circleview Shelter

Equipment: Please bring water, closed toe shoes and weather appropriate attire. All bikes and helmets will be provided.

 

Chat with a Master Gardener

About: Join the Penn State Master Gardeners from 1-2pm to hear and see examples of deer resistant and native plants you can plant in your own yard. See the newly planted south Park Learning Garden and ask a Master Gardener questions. This activity is ADA accessible.

Time: 1:00 – 2:00pm

Where: South Park Community Garden, located near the South Park Theatre on the Corner of Brownsville Rd and Corrigan Dr.

Equipment: No equipment required.

 

Youth Dek Hockey Clinic with Allegheny County

About: Join Allegheny County for a Dek Hockey Clinic from 1-2pm. A lesson on the basics will be provided to kids ages 4-12.

Time: 1:00 – 2:00pm

Difficulty: Beginner

Where: South Park Dek Hockey Rink

Equipment: Please bring water and closed toe shoes. All equipment will be provided.

 

Parks Foundation Project Walking Tour

About: Join our Executive Director, Joey-Linn Ulrich, and Parks Foundation staff from 2:00-3:30pm for a 1.5 mile walking tour through some of our completed, ongoing and upcoming projects throughout South Park.

Time: 1:30 – 3:30pm

Difficulty: Intermediate

Where: Park and meet at the Fairgrounds Oval parking lot on the corner of Corrigan Dr. and Brownsville Rd.

Equipment: Please bring water, shoes appropriate for walking trails, and weather appropriate attire. 

 

Forest Bathing Walk

About: Join us and experience nature’s power to sooth, refresh and open your heart. The Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing) is a slow, sensory-based walk in the woods, during which we focus on the sights, smells, feels and tastes of nature. The walk will last two hours and be no more than a half-mile in length.

Time: 3:00 – 5:00pm

Difficulty: Beginner

Where: Please park and meet at the Cascades.

Equipment: Please bring water, shoes appropriate for walking trails, and weather appropriate attire. 

 

Pour at the Park hosted by the Allegheny County Parks Foundation

About: The day will be capped with Pour at the Park, our annual fundraiser where you can try tastings from local breweries and food vendors while listening to live music! Tickets can be purchased at pouratthepark.com and benefit your county parks.

Time: 5:30 – 8:30PM

Where: Event at the South Park Museum Building with parking at the Green Parking Lot. Overflow parking along Corrigan Drive.
